Hurricane Katrina
This starting to become Old News, which I think it should because too many people are becomign very emotional everytime they read the paper. We can't predict how bad things are going to be, or there wouldn't be any natural disaters cause we would pretty much be safe from them. if we could predict where hurricanes hit then there would be no Fema or the American red cross, except if there were famines or an outbreak of diesease. People died in the places where hurricane katrina hit because they couldn't get out in time or they wanted to stay and wait it out cause they thought it wouldn't be so bad. No one can actually predict the weather.
If you close this thread i understand, but I had to get this thought out of my system.

You know that most of New Orleans has been searched. So far, only 250 dead---not that that's an acceptible number but it's far less than anticipated. Perhaps things weren't as broken as thought? I don't know but I do hope that this thing doesn't become 'old news' too fast. We've only just started.

Excactly, the USCG has rescued several thousand people from that area. The USCG, right now as we speak, is still sending personnel from all over the country, to aid in disaster relief. I would consider this one of the worst, if not the worst, natural disasters in US history. It would be safe to say that the number of dead equally match, if not exceed the number rescued (though not officially documented). It's sad, but i'm afraid that high schoolers will be reading this in thier US History books in the near future.

Uhm.. Yeah I know o_O I was being serious. Katrina ISN'T the world's worst disaster.. I'm pretty sure the Ice Age is high up there on the list as it destroyed almost the entire population of life amoung multicellular organisms.. Even if there weren't may at the time to begin with.

You can add
1. Mt. St. Helen's eruption
2. San Francisco earthquake
3. Twin towers
That last one isn't a natural disaster.

This isn't a "pick on Link" thread. Suffice it to say that this hurricane "ranks right up there" with the worst ones, OK?

A question on my mind, what will happen to the city itself? It was already below sea level. What will happen if the water never fully resides?
